Patch Notes

Depthcrawl RS-242 to RS-312

New race and world (242–244)

  • Elves split in two. High elves and wood elves are now separate races. Wood elves look like the ones in Rankin/Bass’s The Hobbit, with a curved, stooped spine that shows in towns too.
  • A wood elf town. World generator 10 adds a wood elf town, so a medium world now has ten towns, one per race. Old saves still load.

Every race redrawn after the Bakshi and Rankin/Bass cartoons (245–255)

  • High elves, dwarves, half-orcs, halflings, gnomes, tieflings, half-elves and humans all have new faces, builds and clothes, and so do the townsfolk of each race.
  • Dwarves get ten braided beards to choose from.
  • Figure views no longer spin by themselves, so the character preview holds still.
  • Tick boxes on the equipment slots hide what you wear.

Monsters rebuilt in high detail (256–278, 294)

  • Small creatures: scorpions, spiders and crabs, including colourful Sally Lightfoot crabs with real pinching claws.
  • Beasts: wolves, bears, the owlbear, boars, elk, great cats, hyenas, dogs and rats.
  • Dragons: new heads, wings and claws, and breath you can see, different for each kind.
  • Creeping and swimming things: snakes, worms, eels, leeches, the remorhaz, octopus, kraken, eye horrors, the roper, oozes, jellyfish, the water elemental, frogs with gaping mouths, crocodiles, the swamp shambler and the will-o’-wisp.
  • Everything else: sharks, birds, treants that look like Ents, the five-headed hydra, the xorn, the manticore, beetles, golems, fish-men, mind flayers, the umber hulk, gnolls, bugbears, yetis, kobolds and lizardfolk.

Bodies, faces and clothes (263–265, 279–293)

  • Women look like women: a woman’s face, hourglass figure, slimmer hips and arms, and hair that rests on the shoulders.
  • Better faces: eyes set in their sockets, brows, nostrils, and hair and beards grown as strands.
  • Clothes sculpted over the body, with skirts that fit every figure and nothing poking through them.
  • New armour: five helmets (kettle hat, great helm, skull cap, wizard’s hat and hood), with hair kept under them, plus cloaks and kite shields.

Held items and the tome (295–303, 308)

  • Weapons sit right: off-hand weapons show on your model, blades face forward, and the hand closes on the grip.
  • Shields are now held in the hand.
  • The tome: open in a fight; closed out of one, pressed to your palm and following your arm.

Interface (297–298, 304, 312)

  • Click-to-move in dungeons is smoother, and clicking a staircase now takes it.
  • The land you’re in shows under the clock bar.
  • Inventory and equipment are one page, with bag tabs. I opens it beside your stats; P opens stats alone.
  • Two quick bars, each across or down, with prayers on them and room above the d-pad on phones. Food shows cooked or raw.
  • Clicks always land in a fight, and buttons no longer slip away mid-press.

Prayers (306–307)

  • Mystic Will and Rock Skin work together. Magic and ranged prayers no longer switch off unrelated ones.
  • The curses book is checked: saps and leeches don’t stack.

Camping and the world (305, 309–312)

  • Robes meet at the belt.
  • You sit on a stool by your campfire, or beside your tent, toasting a marshmallow.
  • Sandy beaches, shallows and surf replace the old coastal walls.
  • The boat no longer lets water in.
